PORTFOLIO
This art piece shows my creativity especially through my background and my colors. I chose to do self portrait because I knew it would be a challenge. Some things that I worked on through the process included shading and coloring with pastels. I also learned the symmetry through my face and tricks on lining up my eyes lips and nose.
This is my Still Life piece made out of oil pastel. While most still life drawings are drawn from a sculpture or lay out of materials, such as fruits, bowls, etc, I made my piece off of the top of my head without focusing on a sculpture. This was a major challenge for me but I think that over time my peice is finally complete. I believe I mastered the background and table textures as well as the bowl and my shading. I looked at multiple artists for inspiration that had excelled in their still life in their career. I got many perspectives on how to draw fruit and on shading and shadows. In the beginning, I created the piece in about an hour and went back to it and evolutionized the backgrounds and eliminated the white spots that were left behind. In total this piece took my about 1-2 weeks of editing as I am a perfectionist. If I were to do something over it would be to put more emphasis on the grapes and apple and to really learn how to make them look as realistic as possible. This piece links to my naturistic theme and it is made of pastel as well as most of my other work.
This is my Project 3. It symbolizes my environment in which I live in and the moods I have. The sun and rays portray my happiness and the cloud represent the gloomy days. The techniques that I mastered was the depth of the trenches in my art. One of the biggest challenges in which I struggled mastering was the clouds because of the attention to detail in the swirls and the small margin of mistake. I didn't really have any inspiration from any other artists although I had inspirations from different ideas of how to design this. My piece was originally going to be only the ink blot but I am now brainstorming ways I can include other aspects of HL IB art including painting and possibly different colored ink. The depth of my shavings is a compositional element that I used to show distance. If I were to do something over or change one thing it would be paying more attention to my shapes and the cirlce of the piece and next time I will plan out my piece more before I begin. This piece links to my other pieces although it is very different. I have never done a ink blot piece before so it was a big learning experience while it still has the nature element of my other peices and interesting backgrounds.
This is my 4th and last project of the semester and 2017 year. This was also my first time using water colors! I learned how to water wash which I used on the sky and background. This was very difficult due to the crinkles in the page because of the water.
